Introduction

a.s.r. is a major Dutch insurance group offering a wide range of financial products and services. Based in the Netherlands, the company provides insurance (life and non-life), pensions, and asset management solutions to individuals, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and large corporations.

This project was a critical undertaking for a.s.r., requiring the swift development of a bespoke tool to navigate the complexities of the Pension Future Act (WTP) transition. My role in designing the user interface, implementing planning functionalities, and establishing consultant profiles was instrumental in creating a platform that aimed to provide clarity, streamline workflows, and ultimately contribute to a successful and timely transition for a.s.r. and its stakeholders. The rapid four-week development timeframe underscored the need for efficient execution and a focus on delivering core functionalities that directly addressed a.s.r.'s immediate needs.

My responsibilities

Close collaboration

Very close collaboration with various specialists was required to achieve the final product.

Deliverables

Create wireframes, (hi-fi) designs and prototypes for stakeholders presentation. conducting (Product) Quality Reviews and co-reflections during sprint reviews.

Research

A lot of research was done in a relatively short time to draw up requirements

Stakeholder presentation

Presenting the tool to various stakeholders and potential users. The functioning, thought process and design choices had to be substantiated and explained.

User needs / business goals

Identifying user needs and business goals for this project and integrating them effectively.

Prototype (video)

The video below showcases the final desktop prototype, including the various screens, user flows, and custom-designed components created for this project. Voice-over is Dutch.

Screens and flow

Below you will find an overview of various screens that were covered during this project.

1. Dashboard

After completing login in, the user lands on the dashboard for a.s.r.'s WTP (Pension Future Act) transition planning tool. The design prioritizes clear, at-a-glance progress visualization using circular indicators across four key stages. It features easy navigation, a user onboarding section, and action-oriented elements like a "Get started" button. The aesthetic is clean and professional.

As the designer, I focused on layout, visual hierarchy, intuitive elements, a consistent style, and strategic calls to action to create a user-friendly and informative experience for managing the complex transition process.

2. Create a consultant profile

The first step is a user-friendly process for creating consultant profiles via a clear, step-by-step interface. Users can add individual consultants, teams, or upload an employee file for efficiency.

The next step involves linking the appropriate employers to these profiles. Finally, a comprehensive summary is displayed, allowing users to review before generating the file with a clear call to action.

3. Overview of consultants

This "Consultants" screen design for the WTP planning tool provides a user-friendly interface for managing consultant profiles. Key features include clear navigation, a prominent search function, and a structured table displaying essential consultant information such as name, working capacity, linked employers, and remaining capacity.

Direct action buttons allow users to easily add new consultants or teams and proceed to the next planning stage. Each consultant row provides quick access to profile actions (link, edit, delete) via intuitive icons.

4. Planning

The "Planning" section offers a comprehensive solution for managing the transition process through two complementary views: a detailed list and a visual Gantt chart. The List view, as shown in the accompanying image, offers a structured table displaying key information such as contract number, employer, and assigned consultant, along with powerful search, sorting, and filtering capabilities for efficient management of individual plans.

The Gantt chart view provides a clear, multi-year timeline of planned trajectories for each employer, facilitating a high-level understanding of the overall schedule. Both views are integrated with an "Overzicht werkgevers" section for tracking overall progress and offer options for exporting planning data. This dual-view approach empowers users to manage the WTP transition effectively, catering to both strategic overview and detailed task management needs.
